A Gamma Type Stirling Engine was a semester-long project made as part of an introductory course to precision machining.
We were given partial plans for the engine, including pre-designed parts. I learnt how to read and make engineering drawings (with GD&T), create tolerance stack ups, design for machinability and use manual mills and lathes. The parts designed by me, including the flywheel assembly, base and more, were inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender. The engine ran at just under 1000 rpm.
